Pianist and teacher JURIS KALNCIEMS (Latvia) was born in Riga, Latvia. After graduating Emils Darzins Music School, he studied piano at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian National Conservatory (now Latvian Academy of Music) and also in Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. J. Kalnciems has won the first prize of the Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis International Piano Competition in Vilnius (1978). Since 2001 he is the President of Latvian Piano Teachers association (Latvian EPTA branch). In 2003 J. Kalnciems founded and developed the annual Jurmala Piano Performance Course. At present time professor J. Kalnciems is the Head of Piano Department of Latvian Music Academy. He often performs on various international stages, participates in juries of various piano competitions and gives international masterclasses. J. Kalnciems has recorded several CDs.
